Our Solution

The Woodlawn Hospital Governing Board has approved a $12 million renovation plan, based upon the philosophy of "patient-centered care." This approach reduces the distance patients need to walk for outpatient and other services. It also houses physicians on campus so that patients can stay in one location for follow-up testing and diagnostic procedures. This cost-effective method of providing care addresses the needs of both the Hospital and the community. This design philosophy makes the facility accessible to patients; reconfigures services that relate in purpose; creates distinct traffic patterns that separate staff, patients, and visitors; and complies with HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy.

The Hospital will make improvements in the following areas to modernize the facility, improve patient accessibility and comfort, and update the delivery of healthcare:

  • Create an outpatient surgery experience, private rooms, convenient check-in area, as well as easy access for post surgery departure.

  • Expand the front of the facility to create space for a central registration area, with separate cubicles to assure patient privacy and confidentiality.

  • Create a public concourse to a new lobby.

  • Construct two waiting areas to separate people waiting for an outpatient procedure from those waiting for emergency services, thereby reducing the possibility for the spread of infection.

  • Reconfigure outpatient areas to provide expansion for the Emergency Department, Diagnostic Imaging, Laboratory, Cardio-Pulmonary, and to bring Outpatient Rehab back on site.

  • Create Medical Office space to allow patients to visit doctors for follow-up visits under the same roof, and increase physician access to patients in the hospital, before and after surgery. Relocating active staff to the new Medical Office space will create additional room in the current building for more visiting specialists. This will increase the number of specialties offered and increase hospital traffic because more people will be able to remain close to home for medical care.
